For 2013 Season
Waiver Wire
1. Any player can be placed on waivers by the franchise's owner at any time.
2. When waiving a player, please establish a post underneath the waiver wire transactions. Please place the following information in your post:
Franchise
Player
Contract Information
3. After placing a player on waivers, DO NOT remove the player/ contract. Instead bench the player on fantrax and type in red, bold letters the word WAIVER next to the players name. He must remain on your forum books until he is either claimed or clears waivers.
4. All teams have an opportunity to claim the listed player off of the waivers within a 7 day period. If a person claims a waived major league player off of the waiver wire, the person making the claim is agreeing to pay 60% of that players existing contract.
5. If another team also wishes to claim this player, a bidding war will begin, starting with the 60% of the existing contract as the first bid. After this initial bid, free agency bidding rules apply (.1M minimum bid increments and a 24 hour standing bid to win).
6. The moment a bid is placed on the player, the previous owner may erase the player from his team roster thread and that players contract and adjust their cap accordingly.
7. If the player is claimed by another team and either wins the bidding war or is the only owner with a claim in the 7 day period, then that team may place him on their roster. The releasing owner is responsible for 40% of that players contract and both the player and their contract may be erased from the roster.
8. If a player is not claimed by any team then he is placed in free agency and his old contract will no longer be used.
9. If however a player clears waivers and enters free agency, the releasing owner becomes liable for 40% of the players yearly salary on all remaining contract years.
For example: If Owner A releases Alex Rodriguz, and no claims are made on him, then Rodriguez enters the free agency pool.
A-Rod's original contract is: 11:$31M, 12:$29M, 13:$28M, 14:$25M, 15:$21M, 16:$20M,17:$20M
This means the former owner is responsible for: 11:$12.4M 12:$11.6M 13: $10M 14: $10M 15: $8.4M 16: $8M 17: $8M
RELEASE PLAYERS WISELY
*** owners are not responsible for 40% of Club Option years
10. All waiver penalties should be included in the transaction log and
calculated with your salary cap.
11. The only way for the original dropping team to reclaim their waived player is to resign him out of the free agency pool to a new contract. That owner is still responsible however for the 40% of the players original contract.
12. Owners who have remaining salary cap space may pay off future waiver penalty contract years. However, payments must be made in yearly sums. This must be listed in your transaction log and announced on the Future Waiver Payoffs thread for the league, that way the league office is aware of the process.
13. Players in the minor league salary bracket and 1st year salary bracket (.2M/ .25M) are not eligible for the waiver process. They may be released, but upon release they automatically enter free agency and the owner is not responsible for any of their contract.
