Stay Up-To-Date With The Most Recent News Surrounding The San Francisco Giants
April 25, 2013
After making massive deals, shaking up the starting rotation under the new ownership of Chris Gilley, the Giants seem to have settled down with making moves. Two of the deals were 4 for 1 trades to help fill the holes that were in the lineup. The signing of Donovan Salno helps add depth to the bench, and the recent call up of the new profound closer, Jose Valverde, should help the Giants turn their season around. Gilley ensures the playoffs are not out of the picture, "It's still early."

Not being able to find trade bait, the Giants elect to waive SP Roy Halladay today due to the recent news of his shoulder surgery that may cost him the rest of the 2013 season. Giants also elect to waive Kelly Johnson, even though he is putting up decent numbers, the Giants want to get younger and also cut cap. Giants may also look to cut another player or two in order to make room for players coming off the DL and to make room for future free agent signings. Giants have made offers to Travis Wood, Kevin Slowey and Darren O'Day.
Giants also cut ties with Catcher, Hector Sanchez, as a roster move.

After electing to sign SP Travis Wood, instead of Kevin Slowey, Wood goes seven strong, only giving up two hits and zero earned runs. Wood got the win along with going two for three from the plate with a run and a rbi to help himself. Compared to Slowey's last start, it looks like the Giants signed the right guy.
Darren O'day, who also signed last week, has made one appearance so far, he went one and a third, giving up two hits, a walk but also recorded a strikeout and didn't allow a run.
Giants are looking to bounce back this week against the Angels after loosing a nail-biter last week to the Yankees that landed them the last place spot in the NL West. The Giants are still looking to make a couple more trades in the next couple of weeks that will inevitably empty their farm system while bringing in MLB talent to help push for a playoff spot this year and hopefully for the next few years to come. Fans are getting restless after finishing in last place this past season, the GM is feeling the pressure and is anxious to make moves to satisfy the fans.

Over the last three weeks the Giants are 2-1 with an overall record of 20-12-4. Hopefully on the upward trend after pulling a deal to send two of their top prospects to Colorado for Outfielder Dexter Fowler, who is having a career year so far, two months into the season. A few other young prospects were involved in the deal as well, the Giants received two bullpen arms, one who is MLB ready and pitching great for the Blue Jays, Steve Delebar. Giants sent Derick Norris along with Byron Buxton and Kyle Zimmer to the Rockies.
Unfortunately, Josh Rutledge, who was acquired in the Bumgarner trade, was sent down to Triple A, so now the Giants have a gaping hole at second-base. With Solano getting ready to come off the DL, he was set to become the starting second baseman, but with rookie Derek Dietrich playing well during his absence, it's possible that he'll return as a reserve infielder. So the Giants next piece of business seems to be finding an everyday second baseman.
Superstar outfielder, Matt Kemp, has landed on the DL, which couldn't come at a worse time but Dominic Brown has stepped up in Kemp's absence to carry the team. The pitching staff is continuing the great work and bats are starting to come around, if the Giants can get Kemp healthy, the future looks bright.
