He sent me a pm with the subject "trade" that said "jose contreras for wandy rodriguez?"
That was it, so i thought it was an offer.

Aaron why bother sending a trade offer if you are not going to accept it? If you don't want it to be an offer just say "to get things started", or "not an official offer". That way people will know that you are not trading at face value and are really looking for more in a deal.
