Jeff (Oakland owner) brought up a good idea. Right now we have a waiver wire system for minor league additions. Sounds fair but what we are finding is that a few owners are doing the research on players and others are just sitting back and jumping on the players they like and many times winning those bids.
I don't think it is a good idea to reward inactivity and that basically is what is happening.
We need to come up with another system to allow owners who do the research to get most/all of their players.
You can talk about it here.
Any ideas?

I am re-posting Jeff's post.
"Since this league is pretty much going through a rebuild. I think the claiming minor league free agents process should be addressed.
I think there should be no waiver list. Just a 24hr waiting period between claims. Then when a team gets to their max roster number they will be in a culling mode. This way everyone will have to do some research to find players. Doesn't seem fair to put in the time and then lose the players. At this point I'm pretty much done starting claims. Probably doesn't help activity but maybe that will change.

I am re-posting Ben's (owner Cleveland) post.
"I agree with Jeff. I am much less active now then I was for a while. When I realized most of the players I was researching and claiming were going to other people who were not putting in the time, I just quit doing it. So I have been keeping fantrax up to date, and will still try to compete, but I'll treat it more as a keeper than I dynasty league."

My re-post from the other thread
(probably an easier way of transferring this but I wanted to make sure the information is there to get some discussion on the subject)
"I agree that the system is flawed. I had to put up 5 - 8 minor league guys at a time knowing full well that I would lose a high percentage of them. Because so many of the top and mid-range prospects have been taken it comes down to finding possible gems in the lower levels. I would like to scrap the waiver list for next season and come up with a new one that does not penalize the owners who do the research.
I would like to see this addressed by other owners and get some ideas on a workable system."

also maybe lower the number of minors a team can carry. This will increase the culling process and recycle players back to the pool. This is how we do it in some of my hockey leagues. You have guys who are constantly picking up and dropping depending what player is the flavor of the month. There we keep a taken players list but here we can go by whose available on Fantrax. Currently here there are players that were claimed and never add to a roster or Fantrax. This way if you don't add you lose.

I agree with Jeff....
No waiver system... you do the research you put in the claim, simple. As for the number of minors maybe a slight reduction would help as well.

Message taken from "Salary Cap Suggestion" thread (Ben- Indians owner) This morning
"I'd say let's treat minor leaguers as FA signable at the standard minor league salary, on a first come first served basis. Any minor league players "culled" to make room, would go on standard waivers for 72 hours, and if unclaimed would then fall back into the minor league free agent pool."

I'm on board with that Dennis. Although I think 40 minors is a good # to have when there are over a 1,000 of them. Some of them will rise and fall through out each season and there is always someone new coming up. With the claim process I to was forced to put out about 5 or 6 minors at a time in hopes that I would get a few of them. Someone sent me a pm asking/saying basiclly that all they would have to do is claim every other player and they would win the claim and in theory that is factually correct. Lost out on a some of my claims and was suprised others didn't get claimed. Therefore I am in a position where I have to drop some guys to make room for my draftees. Tryed to trade with a few people before the dead line a lot of those guys but was unsucessful. The wavier system is the reason why I had waited on nominating alot people that has been claimed and or will be. So yes I think moving forward that the person who nominate a person should be rewarded for their work. So when would we start this new process after the draft or during free agency?

Just getting ideas now. I prefer making a change in this area. It needs to be cleaned up. Not sure yet on the exact number. I will talk it over with Richie to see what he thinks.
